Examination Requirements for Initial Certification
Lehman School of Education students who will seek their first initial certification from the (NYSED) New York State Education Dept. will most likely be required to pass the following exams: the [EAS #201] Educating All Students, [CST - specific to their certification subject area concentration] Content Specialty Test; more than one CST may be required, depending on the subject area.
The certification exams website is: www.nystce.nesinc.com The website is managed by a private company called Pearson on behalf of the NYSED. Pearson create the exams, and they review and score them. Pearson will automatically submit exam scores to student's personal email and to their NY state TEACH Online Services accounts. The exams website provides all information about each of the exams, registration to take the exams, preparation materials and practice tests.
The state also requires the completion of the following three mandated workshops: the Child Abuse Identification & Reporting, the School Violence Prevention, and the (DASA) Dignity for All Students Act- Anti-Bullying & Discrimination workshops. There is a fourth workshop called the Needs of Students with Autism but only additionally required for anyone seeking certification in Special Ed or in Speech & Language Disabilities [TSSLD].
The mandated workshops are offered online at Lehman College through the (SCPS) School of Continuing and Professional Studies Dept. Visit their link at: https://www.lehman.edu/academics/continuing-education/learn-more/mandated-workshops/ or call them at (718) 960-8512 for more information.
