Theory and methods of optical crystallography. Basic techniques for determining the optical constants of non-opaque minerals in thin sections. Studies of several groups of rock-forming minerals. Introduction to reflected light microscopy of opaque minerals. Lab study and identification of minerals by means of the petrographic microscope.PREREQ: GEO 100 or 101, and GEO 244.
