Introduction to the emerging field of Astrobiology which is concerned with the origin, evolution, and distribution of life in the Universe. Topics include the molecular and cellular structures of life, the co-evolution of life and a planet, the habitability of planetary bodies, and the search for extraterrestrial life. The course also examines the impact of spaceflight on human health and physiology, as well as the role of space exploration research and technologies in advancing medicine, plant science, and environmental studies. Laboratory exercises complement lecture topics and teach basic laboratory skills and techniques.
