Welcome to the Department of Economics and Business!
With over 1,400 undergraduate majors, the Department of Economics and Business is the largest at Lehman College. We are committed to providing a solid foundation in accounting, business management and economics within a hands-on, experiential learning environment with small classes and opportunities to intern with major corporations throughout the region. Our department encompasses studies in Economics, Accounting and Business, offering five undergraduate degrees in accounting, business and economics, and two M.S. degrees in accounting and business. Our programs prepare students for careers as economists, accountants, entrepreneurs, and managers of private, public, and not-for-profit organizations. Many of our alumni are presently working with organizations in a wide range of industries which include each of the Big Four and other, smaller accounting firms, Bank of America, JP Morgan, NYC Dept. of Finance, FDIC, the Office of the Controller of Currency, and the Federal Reserve.
National professional organizations such as Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) are active in our department and provide significant professional development and networking opportunities for students. With faculty guidance, students also compete annually in national professional challenges and our teams have won the Deloitte Case Study Challenge, The College Fed Challenge - Maiden Lane Division and the SHRM Merit Awards. We are also extremely proud of our faculty who breathe life and excitement into our courses. They have applied work experience in their fields of study, regularly publish their research in notable journals, and present their findings at professional conferences. The faculty scholarly research covers a myriad of areas from banking in developing countries to leadership development, international business, health economics, international finance and trade, gender and diversity in management, financial reporting, and competitive strategy.
